A Decade of Dance

As we head into our 10th Anniversary Season, I want to take a moment to think about how far we have come.  Looking back, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride as I reflect on the many ways that Beatniks Dance has affected our community.  Arts Education is severely lacking in our country and yet I found myself lucky enough to land in a community that not only supports the arts, but was already rich in opportunities for both children and adults!  With a community band, theatre, and excellent fine arts programs in our schools, I could not have chosen a better place for us to plant our roots.

We founded Beatniks because we saw a need for dance education and we knew that this community would nurture and support it! And we were not wrong! In our 10 years of business we have seen over 850 students come through our classrooms.  We are lucky enough to visit our students in our schools, participate at community events, and run into our families at the grocery store. I am so thankful that my husband and I found Platte City and that we decided to make our life here.

In a decade of dance in Platte City, we feel like we have become a piece of each one of our students and their families. We have seen each of our students experience joy when achieving a new skills, frustration when they cannot, and a large range of emotions in between.  And I have experience those joys and frustrations right along with them. I have laughed until my stomach hurt, sang at the top of my lungs, prayed for my student’s broken hearts, and cried for the pain and sadness that they endure.

I have watched our Preschool students go to Kindergarten, our Elementary students go on to Middle School and High School, and our High School Graduates head out into the world to the many adventures that await them.

I am so grateful for the numerous relationships that we have built and the unforgettable memories we have made.  I am so grateful for each student and each family that I have taught, mentored, and loved.  I am grateful for this community and the support that it has given us, and I am grateful to share my passion for dance, and for life, every day.

Now as I look forward to our next 10 years, I am filled with excitement for what is to come.  I am overjoyed to think that in 10 more years I will have gotten to know even more students and families and will have become a part of each of them as well.  I have no doubt that there will be a lot of changes in the next 10 years for Beatniks Dance, but there are a few things that I know will not change.  In 10 more years, we will still have a passion for our students that drives our programs.  We will still be building relationships through dance, and creating a lifelong passion for music and movement in our students. And most importantly, we will still be putting the physical, mental, and spiritual health of our students ahead of everything else.  We will still love dance, and we will still love our students.  10 years from now… I can hardly wait!
